“Yasmin Khan draws on her vast experience as a storyteller, cook, human rights activist, itinerant traveler and writer to create a moving, empathetic, hugely knowledgeable and utterly delicious book.”
“This is so much more than a compilation of recipes, gorgeous though they themselves are. This is a book that tells a story, both cultural and personal, and her voice is as engaging as her food.”
“A big bowl-full of delicious Palestinian recipes, plus lots of insightful and moving stories… Great stuff.”
“Yasmin Khan has lived and traveled widely in Iran, and The Saffron Tales… reflects traditions she knows intimately. But she has the rare gift of being able to translate her personal heritage into recipes even newcomers will be able to pull off.”
Yasmin Khan is a best-selling and award-winning author, broadcaster and campaigner, who is passionate about sharing people’s stories through food.
Her work sits on the intersection of food, travel and politics and her critically-acclaimed books, The Saffron Tales and Zaitoun, use everyday stories to human connection to challenge stereotypes of the Middle East and celebrate beauty in places more commonly associated with conflict.
Yasmin has worked as a presenter for BBC R4’s Food Programme and CNN’s Perfect Dish series. She is a regular media commentator, appearing on flagship programmes such as Newsnight, the Today programme and Women’s Hour, and writes for a variety of publications including the Guardian, the Telegraph, the New Statesmen, Saveur, Afar, Food52 and Roads and Kingdoms. Prior to writing books, Yasmin trained in Law and was a human rights campaigner for a decade, running national and international campaigns on poverty and human rights.
Her third book, Ripe Figs (Bloomsbury 2021) chronicles her travels through Turkey, Greece and Cyprus, sharing dazzling recipes and powerful stories that imagine a world without borders.
When not writing or experimenting in the kitchen, Yasmin can be found taking bhangra classes, belting out karaoke songs and practicing her handstands. She’s a firm believer in the undervalued virtue of kindness.
